Space Ship by hunterkiller Space Ship by hunterkiller
One from my training artworks. It is something between concept art and design scene. Done in photoshop. I was little inspired by Mead´s Sulaco, but only in my mind, no reference :)

I love this. The shading using hard brushes was a good choice since it seems to give it a nice texture. Definitely an inspiring work, I love concept work like this. :D

Excellent, thanks a million. I'm only starting out, nothing professional at this time. I would love to know, not down into every littel detail or as in an actual tutorial, but generally, how did you do that? What did you use, how did you start etc.

I am most certainly interested in making my own creations and would most certainly appreciate a little guidance as to what to use and how to go about creating something as spectacular as what have done here.

As far software goes, I have Photoshop CS5, 3D Studio Max, Blender, Bryce, D3 Studio.

Your guidance would be hugely appreciated!

To outcome leads many ways. In the Internet are a many files created by different ways. Each author uses a slightly different approach, someone painted everything by hand, someone else has used as the basis of such simple models from 3D modeling programs. Variability of digital creation is enormous, so is on every author, as it exploits. It is good to try different approaches and mainly follow the work of others as they do, how they think when they works. I can put a pack of names of various interesting authors (if you can), you can find many of them here, on deviantart.

And now about my work. For most of my works I use Photoshop. As a tool I use a Wacom Intuos tablet 4. I don't use anything more, sometimes I make a simple design in SketchUp, it is very quick and efficient for composition of scenes. Besides of it I try learn in Z-Brush, but it still does not use for work.

Sometimes is the motive a clear image, sometimes it occurs gradually constant editing an uncertain scene. Sometimes is interesting to experiment with brushes, textures, shapes, merged or layered photographs. From such a mixture may then crystallize a form that will be evocative for human imagination. Then it's up to the author to elaborate the rest.

For this spacecraft so I proceeded, I knew about the angle of view, but the ship's construction, I did gradually, experimentally. I used just a basic round brush. I have not thought of functionality, I was rather interested by a point of view. Therefore, the ship is not mature and does not really interesting. It was such a sketch rather than a real job. Therefore I hope in future I can do more interesting spacecraft.

I hope that I helped you somehow, if you will interested in something specific, do not hesitate to write, I try to answer. Sorry also for my lousy English, I want to do something with it:)

Hey there again.

Thank you so much for replying! Yes you have indeed given me some answers here.

I think what i must do is perhaps start with drawing my pictures on paper with pencil, then scan it into Photoshop then color it in from there - what do you think?

And by the way - nothing wrong with the English, at least you're trying right?

Thanks again!
Werner
